yes that's normal. if you use too much strength on your right fist you will lose the ability to control the direction of your hit

Cutting Technique - left hand cut
My sensei emphasizes doing your cuts with the left hand. (you hold the end nearer your body with your left hand)
That means you use your left hand most of the time. You almost feel as if your right hand hasn't done anything.
"Left-hand cut, right-hand control."
Is that what you learn as well? I wonder if it's a standard technique...
