Any cloth material would be good. In my opinion, it is best if it is thicker. The fabric I used for the one I made was obtained from IKEA. They are a bit pricy (when I got it, it was RM14++ per meter) but may last your for quite a long time (as long as your pets don't chew on them ^^).

If she's an engineer, she'd have gotten the length of the shinai bag consistent with the length of the shinai in the first part of her drawing. As you can see, her bag's result image is actually shorter than her shinai already. THEREFORE, she's not an engineer. lol

oh! my friend made one like that. He just used some sort of silk cloth.
My aunt makes bags so she got me a bag on the house... ^^

It is pretty easy to make your own shinai bag and all you need is a nice (thick) cloth which can withstand the weight of not only one shinai (in case you have a bunch of them and would like to carry them to keiko everytime). I make my own shinai bag and I actually did it without sketching out the plan first. Hence, I screwed up the 'strings' part ^^|| Didn't have the time to fix it since...
