Sean are u just starting out in kendo or have you been practicing for quite a while? Most shinais in the market nowadays are relatively good. In the end, the quality of a shinai actually depends on how you care for it..... well, thats just IMHO anyway.

You can get a moderately effective and good shinai for around RM100. Come to think of it, I don't really think that shinais come in low-quality or high-quality classes. They just come in different types that's all, like koto shinai or dobari shinai or carbon shinai.

Check out my advice to first time buyers of shinai guide. I hope it helps answer your questions.......

THE QUALITY OF THE SHINAI FROM THE PUDU SHOP IS NOT THAT BAD, ITS GOOD ENOUGH FOR BEGINNERS WHO DON'T HIT MUCH. AS FOR MORE SERIOUS KENDOKA, I THINK IT WILL SPLINT A LOT

Currently we have our own supplier in JCKL who brings in stock from overseas. Some students also order from online websites such as kendoshop.com. Personally, I would not trust any of the local stores (IF you find any). Firstly, the quality is questionable. Secondly, you won't get much choice especially for tsubas.

Advice on buying Shinai in KL

Post by sharez on Sun Sep 06, 2009 10:13 pm

Hello! Well this is my first post I guess. So, I'd like to say HELLO to all!

If it's possible, could I ask where I can buy some good quality Shinai and even a Bokken in the PJ / KL area? Hopefully with some nice Tsuba choices and a Shinai bag as well.

I did ask once from a JCKL member but that was a few years ago and I sort of forgot the address and location (somewhere in Ampang, I think) or even whether it's still there or not.

Need to buy a new set with preferably a Shinai weight to do some practices at home em14 hehehe...
