Re: Im Hoping on this!!!
i dont think that will be possible..
-u know kendo is quite an expensive activity
not many student can afford it
-and will there be sufficient qualified trainers to support this kokurikulum?
-Kendo will just turn out to be like "tuisyen classes" if u force kendo to be popular
when the community has no common knowledge bout kendo,
Anyone could become sensei for $ sake
well thats just my point of view

If you like to debate on it, I suggest someone make another thread. Thanks.
That would make a great debate.

Elessar wrote:Well, you can by starting your own club haha.
Well, that's actually true. In my school the Kendo Club was founded in 1976 by a handful of students. According to the school records they asked for MKA's help, and MKA responded by giving the green light. They donated 10 sets of bogu to the school and also a trainer, Abdul Razak Baginda who was 2nd Dan back then to teach.
So what I suggest to you if you want to have a kendo club in your own school/college/university, follow these steps:
1. Get a group who really are enthusiastic to learn Kendo. Preferably 20, because we all know there are some who might drop out.
2. Speak to a teacher/lecturer/professor for him/her to become the club adviser.
3. Make sure you have a place to train, and a regular time-slot that is alotted. Good places to train would be basketball courts, badminton courts, or any indoor hall that has soft wooden flooring.
4. Think about the short and long-term goals of the club. At the end of 2/3 years, how many members do you want to have? How can you make people continue attending training sessions in order to sustain the club? What will be the club's annual fees?
5. Present your case to Mr. Yap from MKA. He's the secretary for those of you who didn't know. Present your case and argue WELL. Show him that your whole existence depends on Kendo!
And hopefully he says yes. Now all there is to do is to elect the Club's EXCOs, training time, who is training you all......
Wow. I can be a self-help coach
